What is Mindfulness?

  • Paying attention to life as it unfolds
  • Bringing awareness of what is happening right now
  • Purposefully directing attention
  • Being present with thoughts without being caught up in them
  • Non -judgmental, kind and accepting

Why Mindfulness?

Life is busy. It can be stressful & overwhelming.

Nursery is a shared space of many children and some adults. At Nursery we advocate:

  • Life is special
  • Slow down and look
  • Slow down and smell
  • Slow down and hear
  • Slow down and taste
  • Slow down and feel
  • Slow down and breathe
  • Slow down and be

Benefits to children of practising Mindfulness:

  • Stress reduction
  • Improved resilience
  • Greater self confidence
  • The ability to relax
  • Enhanced creativity
  • Greater focus
  • Anxiety reduction
  • Raised self-awareness
  • Increased calm

What might it look like at Nursery?

Brief moment of stillness and attention lasting 30 seconds to 1 minute

What tools do we use?

At Nursery we use the Early Nurture in Mind -mindfulness-based resources developed for young children. Children explore and experience mindfulness through 5 elements:

  1. Nurture in Senses
  2. Nurture in Body
  3. Nurture in Movement
  4. Nurture in Breath
  5. Nurture in Creativity
